Allegra is referred to as an antihistamine. Chemicals by the name of histamine occur naturally in a human body. Antihistamines work against these chemicals. FDA has already approved the usage of Allegra; it is an oral medication that is available in tablet and capsule form.

Each dose of Allegra should be taken with a full glass of water, twice a day or as it has been directed by your physician. Do not exceed the dose or it could enhance its side effects.

Some of the possible side effects that are caused by Allegra are:

  • An allergic reaction which includes: closing of the throat, difficulty breathing; swelling of lips, tongue and face.
  • Mild side effects may also occur like nausea, vomiting, upset stomach and fatigue.

If a dose of this oral prescription is missed take it as soon as possible. You may skip the dose if it's nearing the schedule timing of your next regular dose.

  • Avoid using allegra if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any of its ingredients.
  • You may need special monitoring for health conditions like liver, kidney or heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems urinary problems, glaucoma and enlarged prostate.
  • This medication cannot be taken if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

If you suspect an overdose of Allegra seek medical attention immediately. Hallucinations, seizures, rapid breathing, palpitations, confusion and excitement are the symptoms of an overdose.

The dose of allegra should be avoided if it's nearing the dose of an antacid mainly if it contains magnesium or aluminum like: milk of magnesia, Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta and pepcid complete among others.
