Skin AllergySkin allergy can be defined as a reaction which is caused when the skin comes in contact with different substances. Substances which tend to cause a reaction are:
Eczema, hives, sun allergy and contact dermatitis are different types of skin allergies. A reaction to a particular substance may occur in the form of burning, stinging, itching, blister, and redness. Eczema: Eczema can be defined as a reaction of the skin, in which there is an inflammatory reaction in the skin under which vesicles which is also described as tiny blister raised areas, followed by reddening or erythema, swelling, bumps, and crusting of the skin. Itching and burning of the skin is one of the major characteristics of Eczema. Eczema can start at any age from infancy to adulthood. Sun Allergy: Sun allergy can be defined as a condition where the immune system shows a reaction to sunlight which is described as an itchy red rash. The back of the hands, the outside surface of the arms, the lower legs and the "V" of the neck are the common locations where Sun allergy can be easily noticed. Hives: Hives, refers to an outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or patches on the skin that appear suddenly either as a result of the body's adverse reaction to certain allergens, or for unknown reasons. Hives usually cause itching, but may also burn or sting. They can appear anywhere on the body, including the face, lips, tongue, throat, or ears. Hives vary in, and may join together to form larger areas known as plaques. They can last for hours, or up to several days before fading. |
